EpicDraft for game designers
Write branching dialoguethat reads like drama.
Write each branch as a scene, in screenplay form. See the whole story as a graph, play it through, and hear it read aloud before you book anyone to record it.
Writing the script, exporting it and table reads are free on every platform. The story graph, play preview and Game export are Pro: $15, once.
02 — How it works
From a branch to a playthrough.
Every step happens in the same project, so a change to a line shows up in the graph, the preview and the table read.
- 01Free
Write
Set the script's format to Game and write each node as a scene under its own heading. Screenplay formatting, dual dialogue and craft checks keep a branch readable as drama, not as a row in a sheet.
- 02Pro
Connect
Select a line and add a choice that sends the player to another node. Point it at a node you have not written yet and the graph marks it missing until that heading exists.
- 03Pro
Check
Put conditions on lines and choices, and set variables as the player moves. Badges mark dead ends and unreachable nodes, and the Vars view warns when a condition reads a name nothing sets.
- 04Pro
Play
Play preview runs the branching script as script, with live variables underneath. Go back, restart, jump to any node, or list the hidden choices and what each one needs.
- 05Free
Read aloud
Run a table read with a voice for each character and hear the branch before you record it. Export the script as Fountain, FDX or PDF to hand to your actors.
03 — Made for branching
Your writers, your actors and your engine can all read it.
The script stays a script. The graph and the data are views of it, not a second copy to keep in step.
- 01Free
A script, not a spreadsheet
Characters, scenes and dialogue stay in screenplay form. Export Fountain, FDX or PDF without a watermark and give your voice actors pages they can read.
- 02Pro
The shape of the story
The Map shows every node and branch. The List shows each node with its choices, in reading order. A line in the footer says whether the story is whole or counts what is broken.
- 03Pro
Out to your engine
File, Export, Game saves a .game.json file with your choices and variables. It leaves the layout behind. The Game export is marked experimental.
04 — Yours
Your story stays on your machine.
- 01
Local-first
Your projects live on your device. Pro adds optional cloud backup, yours to turn off.
- 02
Plain text underneath
The script is Fountain, a plain text format. Export Fountain, FDX or PDF any time.
- 03
One story, many files
Give each chapter its own script and include one in another. The file keeps the reference, so an edit shows up everywhere it is used.
