Blender Add-on

The EpicDraft add-on keeps a .blend file linked to one 3D page in EpicDraft: a scene's 3D blocking or a location's 3D set. Move, add or delete objects in Blender and the EpicDraft page follows; change the page in EpicDraft and Blender follows.

What you need

  • The EpicDraft desktop app for Windows, Linux, or the Mac download from epicdraft.com. The Mac App Store build, the web app and phones can't link to Blender.
  • Blender 4.2 or newer, on the same computer.

Install

  1. Download epicdraft_blender_addon.zip. Don't unzip it. Get the Blender add-on in EpicDraft's Linked editors panel downloads the same file.
  2. In Blender, open Edit ▸ Preferences ▸ Add-ons, choose Install from Disk… (in the menu at the top right), and pick the zip.
  3. Tick EpicDraft Sync in the list.

To update, install the newer zip the same way.

Pair it with EpicDraft

  1. In EpicDraft, open the 3D page, press Linked editors, then Turn on. Copy the pairing code.
  2. In Blender, open the sidebar (N) in the 3D Viewport, go to the EpicDraft tab, paste the code into Code and press Connect.
  3. Pick the page to link this file to and press Link this file.

With Sync as I work on in Blender, each edit is sent half a second after you stop, and EpicDraft's changes arrive as they happen. Send to EpicDraft and Take from EpicDraft do the whole scene at once. In EpicDraft, Push to Blender and Pull from Blender do the same from the other side.

The file remembers the page it is linked to. Reopen it, connect, and it links again. A new pairing code (EpicDraft restarted, or the bridge was turned off and on) needs pasting again.

What comes across

  • Meshes (with modifiers applied) become Library models in EpicDraft.
  • Cameras keep their lens.
  • EpicDraft stand-ins (box, plane, cylinder, sphere, figure) stay stand-ins.
  • Position, rotation and scale, and plain custom properties, go both ways.
  • Lights and empties are kept but not shown in EpicDraft.

Not yet: keyframes and clips, materials and textures, and parenting.

If the same object was moved in both programs between syncs, the later sync wins, and Blender's console names the objects.

Is it private?

The add-on talks to EpicDraft over a port on this computer that is only open while Linked editors is turned on, and only with the pairing code. Nothing is uploaded.
