File History
File ▸ History… opens the version history. On mobile, it's a History screen in the drawer's Document group.
What a version is
A version is a snapshot of the whole project — the screenplay, title metadata, story fields, and Library pages together. Restoring one brings all of it back, not just the script text.
When versions are saved
Versions are saved automatically:
- Periodically while you write — configurable in Settings → History: every N changes, every N minutes, or whichever comes first. "Changes" counts saved edits, not keystrokes.
- Before an AI run changes anything — an AI checkpoint, so there is always a way back.
Where history lives
Version history is stored on your device — never on the server. It can sync device-to-device between your own devices and with collaborators, but the server never holds it.
The version list
Versions are listed newest first, with an author filter on shared files and a Changes preview for each version.
- Restore replaces what's open with the selected version. Restoring is an edit like any other, so it syncs to your other devices and collaborators.
- Undo my last edits rolls back your own recent work. If a collaborator's work would be affected, it refuses rather than guesses.
Pro
Browsing and restoring versions is a Pro feature — but versions keep being recorded for everyone. Upgrading later unlocks the file's whole past, and a lapse never silently stops the safety net.
Settings
- Settings → History — the app-wide cadence.
- Settings → File → History — a per-file override, plus a readout of how much disk this file's history uses.
The .zip project bundle is the portable export; history is the local memory.
