Read Aloud

A Read aloud button appears on AI chat responses when a voice is available, so you can listen to an answer — or a draft — instead of reading it.

Choosing a voice

Speech is generated by the model pinned to the Speech task in Settings → AI.

Like image generation, speech is never auto-routed to a remote service: what you have written is exactly the thing being sent, so the only way a remote voice is ever used is if you pin one to the Speech task yourself. If no voice is configured, the Read aloud button simply doesn't appear.
