Find & Replace
There are two ways to look for something: Search everything across the whole project, and the find bar inside the page you're editing.
Search everything
Press ⌘K / Ctrl+K, or click Search in the header. One box searches the open project and groups what it finds:
- Scenes
- Pages
- Notes
- Script — any line of the script, with the scene it's in.
Move through the results with the arrow keys and press Enter to go there.
While the caret is in the script or a Library page, ⌘K / Ctrl+K makes a link instead (see Formatting). Use the Search button in the header then. While the manual is open, the same keys search the manual.
Search everything comes with Settings → Labs → Writer and Director views, which is on by default.
The find bar
Edit → Find → Show Find (⌘F / Ctrl+F) opens the find bar above the page. Edit → Find → Show Replace (⇧⌘F / Shift+Ctrl+F) adds the replace field. The same items close them again.
- Type in Search the text.... Every match is highlighted, and a count
like
3/12shows where you are. - Find Previous and Find Next step through the matches; so do ⇧⌘G / Shift+Ctrl+G and ⌘G / Ctrl+G (also under Edit → Find).
- Match Case (the Aa button, or Edit → Find → Match Case) only matches the same capitals.
- Type the new text in Replace with..., then Replace Current or Replace All.
The find bar works in the script, in Library pages, and in the story pages such as Style & Tone and Treatment. It searches the editor you opened it in. On a read-only project you can find but not replace.
On a phone, Find, Replace and Match Case are in the drawer's View group.
Finding a page in the Library
The search field at the top of the Library filters its list as you type. Escape clears it. See Library.
In a browser some of these keys change; see Keyboard Shortcuts.
